1920's review


yankee stadium-Sheina will be discussing the impact the opening of Yankee Stadium in 1923 had on the view of sports in the USA.  
 death of warren g harding- The sudden death of president Warren G Harding in 1923 was perhaps one of the greatest mysteries of the time. He died in a San Francisco hotel room on August 2nd, and though the official cause of death was stroke, an affair with Warren's mistress Nan Britton, The Teapot Dome Scandal, the quick retracting of the cause of death, and many varying accounts of Warren's health led to outlandish rumors. These included intentional malpractice, and a jealous wife poisoning him. Since his wife refused an autopsy, the mystery remains. What happened to Warren G Harding?

Stock market crash- 

The Stock Market Crash of 1929 was the first of its kind, a sudden decline in stock prices across the entire market, affecting the majority of stockholders. It was also one of the precursors of the Great Depression.

St valentines day massacre- In the 1920s, the streets of Chicago were ruled by organized crime gangs, and in 1929, ongoing battles between the different gangs came to a blood-spattered climax.   In 1929, Al Capone came up with a plan to eliminate his archrival and fellow crime boss “Bugs” Moran. On February 14, two men dressed as police officers tricked seven of Moran’s men into a trap executed them.  Although Moran himself wasn’t killed, this event marks the end of the ongoing rivalry between Moran and Capone with Capone’s emerging victorious. 

Leopold and loeb tribe- An 18 and 19 year old are obsessed with proving their intellectual superiority by committing the perfect crime. They lure a 14 year old boy into a car and murder him with a chisel. Their crime, however is not perfect, as one left a pair of specialized glasses near the dead body. Only a few people have these glasses and Leopold and Loeb are caught and convicted. They are sentenced to life in prison and not a death sentence due to their defense attorney, Clarence Darrow's strong argument against it.

Tunney/dempsy- about the fight between champion boxers, Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey. These men were the two greatest boxers during the Roaring 20s, and were each other’s bigg
best enemies.

Toys of the decade- “Toys of the 1920s” where she will be presenting some of the toys children played with during the decade.  It will be her first time performing this act in front of a large audience but nevertheless she assures that it will be an exciting and educational experience for all.  She promises there to be special guests, props, surprises, and much more.

Shalv Eisenberg-The twenties were very significant times in american history, as technology developed extensively.  Shalva will be presenting various inventions and developments occuring in the 1920's.

Malka edery-In 1920 there was an uprising of organized crime with the start of gangs, the mafia , etc..

Amalya Shulman- The KKK's impact in the 1920s. Their message of patriotism and fundamentalism along with white supremacy resonated with American citizens who were uncomfortable with the changes in the nature of the U.S during this time. Their estimated membership was between 3 and 8 million Klansmen. While the Klan remained a clandestine society, many mainstream, middle class citizens were among their ranks. Known as "The Invisible Empire", the Klan was able to have their members elected to state and local governments, effectively controlling many areas in the U.S.

Batya Stein- 
Aimee Semple McPherson was a famous Christian radio personality who was kidnapped in 1926 and held for ransom in a Mexican desert until she climbed out a window and escaped a month later. Many in the media and public were skeptical of her story and a jury convened to decide if the kidnapping was an excuse fabricated to cover up a scandal or if she was telling the truth. Although the case was dropped due to lack of evidence, it was still widely thought that she was guilty of lying and she was widely defamed by the press. 

Meira Sheffey- during the 1920s there weer many advancements in food. Americans ate canned food, also there was refrigeration and and many new manufactured foods were introduced.

Maanyan Shachak- The 1920s is the time that marks the beginning of the modern era of music. At this time people enjoyed gathering in their individual towns and simply dancing and listening to music.

Ilana Markowitz -Prohibition was a constitutional ban (at that time the 18th Amendment) on the import, sale, production, and transportation on alcoholic beverages. The amendment stood for 13 years before being repealed in 1933. Though many felt strongly about this movement, there were also plenty of people who disagreed with it and went against

Rivka Hirsch- On November 2, 1920, KDKA, a radio station based in Pittsburgh, aired the first national radio broadcast.  The broadcast not only informed the country of the results of that day’s presidential election, but it also began the era of the radio, one of the most powerful forms of media ever.  This broadcast paved the way for the advent of constant, far reaching music and news radio, as well as the ability to broadcast sports games live.  In this way, KDKA truly embodied their slogan: “The Pioneer Broadcasting Station of the World”.

Shana Devorah Plotsker- During the 1920s, advertising grew to become a very important industry and also began to play a crucial role in the success of businesses. Advertisers were using color, exaggeration, and different kinds of pictures to get customers to want to buy the products. The 1920s was when the advertisers recognized that their job was  to make consumers want to buy their goods. It was during the 1920s that there were more consumers buying products and spending more money than ever before, and this was largely due to the new advertising techniques of the decade.

 Once sound was introduced to movies, Films took on a whole new meaning, and became much more exciting for America . Everyone was ecstatic about this advancement, and  immediately fell in love with talkie films, changing the movie industry Forever .

 A more recent endeavor she has taken on is the "A minute of the 1920's" challenge, in which she plans to imbibe into her students the importance of the Tea Dome Scandal. Talya does not wish to give away her entire lesson, however to peak the interest of potential viewers, she will extrapolate that the Tea Dome Scandal was the watershed of the 1920's

Chanie Klavan-  the Charleston. Her exuberant performance will have the audience dancing along with its fun moves and upbeat tune. 

Rachel gutmannThe notorious Prohibition agent, Izzy and his faithful deputy, Moe will change your outlook on law enforcement completely! This crime fighting duo sparked large public interest in the 1920's by their unusual methods of catching Prohibition offenders. Izzy (or Isadore Epstein) was a master of disguise, he would camouflage himself and Moe in all sorts of outrageous costumes to catch illegal booze smugglers. Some of their famous getups include a couple, a Rabbi, and a Hollywood movie extra! They will surely quench your thirst for adventure!
